Translation:
THE VISIONS OF DINORAH DELFIN
The Venezuelan artist Dinorah Delfin has long been living between Rome and New York. Her mentor, painter and photographer Chuck Close, also serves as the inspiration for her latest series of works, created using mixed media, photography, and collage. As Close himself noted in a recent interview, Dinorah Delfin "is trying to be a painter who makes photographs."
The works, on display until October 30 at Elga Wimmer PCC in New York (526 West 26th Street), also reinterpret the great masters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, primarily Caravaggio. The titles themselves sometimes evoke grand canvases with religious and mythological themes, but the images are far from sacred in tone.
Instead, the body of work forms a profane gallery, rich with symbols, allegories of our time, dreamlike landscapes, and ancient architectures.
