Process in Synthmorphik Realism

SYNTHMORPHIX is a series of digital illustrations created using a method I call P2P (Prompt-to-Paint) Jamming.

This process involves iterative collaboration with AI systems such as DALL-E and Midjourney to create art. While these tools can generate stunning finished artworks from a single prompt, SYNTHMORPHIX employs a process of refining initial outputs and completing them through hundreds of additional prompts. This iterative approach allows for adjustments to achieve specific visual and conceptual outcomes.

The creation process can be similar to traditional painting techniques but uses digital tools like Photoshop to build or compose an image by assembling artworks layer by layer. For example, when creating a portrait, my process starts with a digital sketch or photograph, outlining facial features, followed by detailed work on other parts of the body and background. Completing a single image can take weeks.

I use the term “jamming” to describe SYNTHMORPHIX because it resembles the improvisational nature of musicians creating unique compositions with beats, rhymes, and rhythms. In this creation process, I use multiple prompts to experiment with AI outputs, which are then curated to form a final artwork.

SYNTHMORPHIX invites viewers to reflect on AI not just as a tool for self-knowledge but as a tool influencing societal values and our understanding of synthetic and human creativity. By blending synthetic and human creativity, SYNTHMORPHIX aims to foster curiosity and dialogue about the human condition and the potential of these intersections.

"What I love about Dinorah's work is that she collects imagery—a whole batch of material to sort through—and then uses digital processes in Photoshop to construct an image."

"What Dinorah is doing is very interesting ... it almost feels like she's constructing actors on a stage."
